Objectives of Well Cementing

Main objectives of well cementing are as below:

Ensuring Zonal Isolation: Quality of the cement job has enormous impact on well productivity. There could be several porous formation in the well bore. Some of them could be hydrocarbon bearing and some may have water. Not having effective isolation between the two zones could cause cross-flow and would impact the overall productivity of the well.

Effective Seal: A good cement bond to casing and formation establishes an effective seal in the annulus. It ensures that there is no communication between formation and well.

Corrosion Protection: Good quality cement in the casing annulus also ensures that there is no contact between corrosive formation fluid and casing pipe. This provides good corrosion protection to the casing pipe and ensures longer well life.
